The problem isas no doubt many of our readers understand all too welloften there is no one book that covers all the topics. As a result, those interested in doing research and study end up going here, there, and yon in pursuit of this book, or that book, in an attempt to fill the void. Especially is this true when it comes to books dealing with the various aspects of Christian apologetics and Christian evidences.
However, I would like to recommend a book that does an excellent job of covering all the bases in apologetics. Several years ago, Roger Dickson authored The Fall of Unbelief, which we carried in our catalog and recommended to those searching for a book that provided a good overview of apologetics and evidences. Unfortunately, the book went out of print, and has been unavailable for quite some time.
A little over a month ago, Roger sent us a review copy of his latest work, The Dawn of Belief, which replaces the previous volume. In this 400-page paperback, the reader will find a veritable storehouse of useful information on almost every area of study imaginable within the field of apologetics.
The book begins with what the author calls a history of defense. From there, in an additional twenty-one chapters, there are discussions of: (a) the Christian and the concept of reason; (b) the dilemma of doubt; (c) the existence of God; (d) the Bible and science; (e) creation/evolution including a discussion of the age of the Earth and theistic evolution; (f) the problem of evil, pain, and suffering; (g) the history of the Bible; (h) archaeology and the Bible; (i) biblical revelation and inspiration; (j) fulfilled prophecy; (k) the concept of miracles; (l) the historicity and deity of Jesus; (m) etc.
In addition to the easy-to-understand style in which the entire book is written, there are numerous charts and graphs to aid the reader. And, each section is heavily documented with footnotes that lead to a list of references at the end of the chapter so that the person who would like additional information has the research tools already at his/her disposal.
The section on biblical revelation and inspiration is worth the price of the book. Carefully and methodically, the author provides an in-depth discussion of these important topics that helps the reader to understand not only why God chose the written word as His medium of communication with His creation, but how the process worked as well. In the current climatewith many within the religious community itself denying the concept of the Bibles verbal, plenary inspirationThe Dawn of Belief provides a refreshing dose of common sense coupled with a deep respect for Gods Word.
I highly recommend this book. High school age students and above would benefit immensely from a study of its contents. We have the book in stock, and ready for immediate shipment. Cost is $15. Call us at 1-800-234-8558 to order by credit card. Or, send $15 + $2 postage to order by mail.
