Welcome to the Apologetics Press Web Store

In this space in September 1997, I wrote an editorial note titled “Apologetics Press on the World Wide Web,” to announce that interested readers with access to modem-equipped computers could begin taking advantage of our new Web site. That site, I noted, contained (among other things) an introduction to our work, a listing of current catalog offerings, past and present issues of Reason & Revelation, items from Discovery (our monthly magazine on Scripture and science for children), etc. At the end of my editorial note, I remarked that “in the future, we hope to add additional items as well.” Welcome to the future!

Since late in 1997, Charles McCown, our Manager of Information Systems has been working diligently to create and install on our current Web site a “Web Store” that would allow those who wish to do so the capability of purchasing (via the Internet) materials we publish or distribute. This has been an arduous and daunting task.

First, each item listed in our catalog had to be encoded into a special format. Second, descriptions and prices had to be similarly encoded. Third, software applications necessary for the proper working of the Web Store had to be customized. Fourth, a security system had to be installed so that credit orders would be encrypted automatically, thereby allowing customers the peace of mind in knowing that their credit card numbers could not be seized or copied by some potentially unscrupulous “cyber-criminal.” Fifth, a special e-mail address had to be created to receive the orders. And so on. And so on.

But, as I said in my September 1997 editorial note, Charles McCown is “an intelligent, hard-working young man with a keen interest in, and insight into, the world of computers” Oh, how true! As a result of many long hours and intense problem-solving sessions over several months, we now are ready to announce the availability of the new “Apologetics Press Web Store.”

By way of summary, here is how it works. When you log onto our regular Web site (http://www.ApologeticsPress. org), one of the listings on the home page will access the new Web Store ordering system. While in the Web Store format, customers can browse through our various catalog listings, or search for special items. They then can add potential purchases to their private “shopping cart.” As they do so, the Web Store will keep a running tab of the total costs being incurred. During their “on-line shopping spree,” customers can change their minds as often as they want. They can: (a) change the quantities of items already in the cart; (b) delete items from the cart; (c) add more items to the cart; (d) etc. From the beginning, Charles and Trevor both insisted that the Web Store be as user-friendly as possible. I think they have achieved that goal (and several others) admirably.

Through the Web Store, you may purchase books, tracts, audio tapes, video tapes, Research Articles—anything available through our printed catalog. In the near future, subscriptions to our monthly journals will be available on-line as well. Once you have confirmed and sent your order to us over the Internet, we will have it in a matter of minutes or hours, not days (as via regular mail). Currently, we ship all orders the same day they are received (except for those that arrive after the day’s mail pickup, which are shipped the next day). Customers ordering from our new Web Store will see our already-speedy service improve even more! Why not give it a try? And remember—we are only a toll-free call away if you have any problems, or need some help (800/234-8558).
